In his sermon on Psalms 148–150, Stephen Davey explains that the book of Psalms concludes with a sweeping call for everything that exists to praise the Lord. Psalm 148 summons all creation—angels, stars, oceans, animals, rulers, and people of every age—to join a universal hallelujah, anticipating Christ’s future reign as “King of kings.” Psalm 149 looks ahead to Israel’s joy and victory in the coming kingdom, distinguishing Israel’s past role in divine judgment from the church’s present mission of grace and gospel warning. Psalm 150 crescendos with loud, joyful worship, commanding every instrument and every living being to praise the Lord without restraint. Davey concludes that human history is moving toward an eternal chorus of praise, when all the redeemed will forever declare, “Hallelujah, for the Lord God Almighty reigns.”
